LIBRARIES

My origin in libraries is as an at-risk gay youth, from a neighborhood where

library access was the preferred way to tap into our town's social safety net.

My commitment to libraries is beyond my passion as a professional.

It is a testament to how I and those I loved found safety and support.

PUBLIC LIBRARIES

My resume details the more typical roles I've had while working in public libraries.  My work as a consultant has involved a range of libraries.  A great reward of supporting libraries that I get to apply my expertise to new and different  puzzles.  Below is a summary client list from my work with Constructive Disruption.

LARGE PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEMS:

  • Santa Clara County Library District, CA

  • Ocean State Libraries, RI

  • Placer County, CA

  • Libraries of Eastern Oregon, OR

  • State Library of Oregon LSTA Evaluation, OR

  • Central Arkansas Library System, AK

SUBURBAN & URBAN LIBRARIES in:

  • Livingston, NJ

  • Hoover, AL

  • Springfield, OR

  • Cranston, RI

  • Eugene, OR

  • Bristol, RI

TEACHING

Throughout my career I've realized how a rigorous education in teaching was such great preparation for so many different job roles.  These range from in person and online instruction in a course format to other settings where learning occurs: public presentations; nurturing others' success in the workplace; and, providing board-level continuing education.

I retain a full and robust set of skills for instructional design, for both in person and online environments.  Below is a high-level summary of proficiencies.

PROFICIENCIES:

  • Designing and teaching Masters-level content in information behavior, adult services, and children's services.  At the School of Communication & Information at Rutgers University I did this in person and online.

  • Facilitating library board learning and development

  • Facilitating and structuring stakeholder group efforts for advocacy, development and fundraising

  • Engaging young audiences through literature-based activities (yes, I love leading storytime!)

LIBRARY SCHOOLS

My professional career was launched in school libraries, and I have maintained a strong afffinity for this corner of learning ecosystems that serve children.

PROFESSIONAL SERVICE

Professional service has always lent me a way to give back to the library community and to collaborate with colleagues in ways that expand my own horizons.

I'm confident taking leadership roles, though I do  relish an opportunity to assume responsibility on a tightly focused project that makes a clear and measurable impact.
